Purpose:
The Middle School Teacher is responsible for implementing the District’s instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level assigned, in accordance with District goals, policies and procedures.
All employees are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate clearly and respectfully, champion the needs of students, and drive continuous improvement.
QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Preferred:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Teach in accordance with staff assignment, displaying effective teaching practices.
- Complete effective lesson plans with immediate and long-range goals; develop lessons appropriately.
- Use instructional time effectively, choose appropriate materials and activities, present subject matter clearly and interestingly.
- Coordinate and plan with team members and librarian to provide effective learning experiences.
- Administer the classroom to create an environment conducive to learning; organize procedures for effective classroom management; maintain a positive, accepting attitude with students.
- Provide flexibility for individual and group activities; practice positive discipline techniques that help students gain self-control and responsibility.
- Cooperate with school personnel for student welfare; supervise behavior and safety of students during classes and school activities on and off campus.
- Work with counselors, administrators, parents, and staff to place students in the most effective educational setting.
- Instruct students in school safety and emergency drills; participate in special activities and programs for students and parents.
- Initiate communications with parents: inform about programs and progress, and alert when problems arise.
- Coordinate with program director, department chair, and other staff.
- Administer an appropriate record-keeping system, maintaining accurate records for student evaluation, attendance, textbooks, materials, funds, parent contacts, conferences, disciplinary measures and referrals.
- Meet required record-keeping formats and timelines.
- Exemplify professionalism in behavior and performance; cooperate with staff and administrators; work with team leaders and principal to improve performance.
- Promote understanding of District programs and policies; remain current in education and specific instructional areas through literature, workshops, conferences, professional organizations and courses.
- Adhere to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and support the District’s philosophy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
