DescriptionThe Center for Mexican American and Latino/a Studies (CMALS) at the University of Houston seeks a non‑tenure track Professor of Practice for the academic year of Fall 2026‑Spring 2027.
Duties include teaching (75%) and administrative (25%). The successful candidate must have college‑level teaching experience with a preference for a candidate who has experience in teaching Mexican‑American & Latino Studies and recruitment. The successful candidate will teach MAS courses. The Professor of Practice will serve as recruiter and help facilitate the growth of the MALS major, including student recruitment, coordinating coaching and mentoring support for each student in the major, and other related duties.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships. The typical course load is a 4‑4, but two course releases (one per semester) will be granted to fulfill administrative duties. The initial term is one academic year and may be renewable after initial term.
The Center for Mexican American and Latino/a Studies mission is to advance knowledge, promote critical thinking and foster the value of service to the community. This involves designing a broad spectrum of public and scholarly programs.
Located within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, CMALS has evolved into an academic unit with several major components: teaching, research and publications, recruitment and retention, leadership training, academic advising and community service.
Qualifications- Doctoral degree preferred.
- Master’s degree may be considered.
- Preference for candidates who hold current relevant professional credentials, have college or university teaching experience, or prior relevant industry experience.
