Purpose:
The High School Teacher is responsible for implementing the District instructional program and educational philosophy in the subject area or grade level designated in accordance with District goals, policies and procedures. All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, champion the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- Preferred:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze student performance data
- Knowledge of lesson design qualities
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities
- Willingness to work in small learning communities
- Teach in accordance with staff assignment.
- Display effective teaching practices to ensure student engagement and learning, including:
- Designing lesson plans with short- and long-term goals.
Designs lessons that demonstrate real‑world relevance and integration.
Uses time effectively.
Selects appropriate materials and activities.
Presents subject matter clearly and interestingly.
Co‑ordinates and plans with team members.
Monitors student performance with formative and summative assessments.
Analyzes data and develops plans for student success.
Implements the RTO process when appropriate.
Participates in professional learning communities.
Utilizes technology to support instruction.
Collaborates on interdisciplinary teams focused on curriculum integration and student success.

- Administer the classroom to create an environment conducive to learning, including:
- Organising procedures for classroom management.
Arranging the teaching area efficiently and safely.
Providing flexibility for individual and group activities.
Applying positive discipline techniques.
Maintaining a positive attitude with students.
Working individually with students in a tutorial setting.
- Organising procedures for classroom management.
- Cooperate with school personnel in supporting student welfare:
- Supervising student behaviour and safety during classes and activities.
Working with counselors, administrators, parents, and staff to place students in the most effective educational setting.
Instructing on school safety and emergency drills.
Participating in special activities and programs for students and parents.
Supporting co‑curricular activities relevant to the subject area.
- Supervising student behaviour and safety during classes and activities.
- Initiate communication with parents to inform them of progress and any attendance or behaviour issues.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping in the online gradebook, attendance, textbooks, materials, funds, parent contacts, conferences, disciplinary measures, and referrals.
- Exemplify professionalism by cooperating with staff, seeking evaluation, supporting the District vision, staying current in education and technology, adhering to the Texas Education Code of Ethics, and complying with all policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. The position may also require travel within the district and statewide. Mental demands include problem solving, interpreting data, applying knowledge of current research, effective oral and written communication, and maintaining emotional control under stress.
