Position: 2026-2027 Piano Teacher -PVAA @ Albright Middle School

Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026

Job Description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through the art of playing the piano. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for music and level assigned
  • ESL Certification preferred or required within two (2) years of employment for teachers hired in 2010‑11 school year

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong musical ability, along with solid knowledge of music theory and piano technique
  • Fluent sight‑reading
  • Ability to explain various piano techniques and musical fundamentals
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Patience and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses

Experience

  • Student teaching or approved internship
  • Previous experience as a piano teacher preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Teach music theory and help students sharpen sight‑reading, memorization, and improvising techniques.
  • Provide high‑quality piano instruction to students of all levels.
  • Prepare students for exams, recitals, concerts, and other events.
  • Motivate students, especially when progress is slow.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance toward improved technique and musicality.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Present subject matter per Texas Education Agency and board guidelines.
  • Use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and equipment for individual needs.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed.
  • Cooperate with staff to plan and implement instructional goals and methods.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  • Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities; sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Demonstrate professional piano skills in the classroom.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials, books, and equipment.
  • Participate in district‑defined music activities and exhibitions.
  • Maintain a professional, ethical, and responsible demeanor.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a conducive learning environment for physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging atmosphere that builds confidence and musical appreciation.
  • Manage behavior and administer discipline per board policies, IEPs, and regulations.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Comply with safety guidelines for piano and music supplies.

Communication

  • Serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Keep professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use clear and accurate communication skills.
  • Articulate district mission and goals to the community and seek support.
  • Demonstrate awareness of community needs and initiate relevant activities.
  • Employ effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Comply with federal, state, and UIL rules and board policy in music.

Policy, Reports, and Law

  • Stay informed of and comply with all relevant regulations.
  • Attend meetings to review, create, and revise piano curriculum and policies.
  • Maintain and file all required reports and records.
  • Adhere to district handbooks, board policies, AISD procedures, Code of Conduct, educator ethics, and applicable laws.
