Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. CE Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System.

Lone Star College accepts application material year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Adjunct (part-time) faculty hiring is based on student demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential

Job Functions
  • Teaches Medical Billing and Coding courses at a variety of times and locations
  • Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material to real work examples
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  • Utilizes a course syllabus and course plan for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  • Meets with and advises students either before or after class by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
  • Conducts formal and informal evaluations of students to measure progress in achieving course objectives and informs students of their progress in a timely manner
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attends meetings, trainings and orientations as required. Responds to all LSC communications in a timely manner
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary with typical office-related physical activities. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone and standard office equipment; specialized equipment as required by the discipline
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal safety hazards
  • Hours vary by class time; instructors are required to meet scheduled classes and be available to students outside of class instruction
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with three years of recent experience in Medical Billing and Coding or an equivalent combination of industry and teaching experience
  • Current certification from AHIMA or AAPC (e.g., CPA, CCS, CPC) or comparable certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • ICD-10 training
  • Current AHIMA certification such as CCA or CCS, or comparable certification
Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
