Assistant​/Associate​/Full Professor of Counseling

Position Summary

Houston Christian University (HCU) announces a full‑time position for Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Counseling to begin Fall 2024 and continue thereafter. The role is within the Department of Counseling, part of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. The position is exempt, reports to the Dean of the College, and focuses on teaching graduate‑level courses that integrate Christian perspective with counseling practice.

• Teach graduate courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, and related programs; online instruction may be required.
• Develop and deliver curriculum that integrates Christian faith with counseling practice.
• Serve on and chair various departmental and university committees, including dissertation committees for the Doctor of Education when applicable.
• Engage in productive scholarly activity and support students, the Department, the College, the university, and the community.
• Apply instructional technology skills to enhance learning.
• Participate in leadership activities; prior experience as a director, chair, or higher position is preferred.

• Completed doctorate in counseling from a regionally accredited program.
• Doctoral degree recognized by a CACREP or COAMFTE accredited program, or grandfathered as core faculty.
• Licensed professional counselor or marriage & family therapist in Texas (or license‑eligible in Texas). LPC‑Supervisor or LMFT‑Supervisor preferred.
• Texas School Counseling Certification preferred.
• Professional affiliation with counseling/mental health professions through licensure, development, membership, research, or service.
• Experience in leadership as a director, chair, or higher.
