Students study great literature, disciplined inquiry, and thoughtful discussion, preparing them to think clearly, speak eloquently, and engage with the intellectual heritage of Western civilization. While instruction is virtual, travel and face‑to‑face attendance will occur several times per year to support in‑person state testing and student events.
Position SummaryThe English Teacher will lead students in literature, grammar, composition, and rhetoric within the classical tradition. Instruction emphasizes close reading, careful textual analysis, and thoughtful writing grounded in significant Western works.
Primary Responsibilities- Plan and deliver rigorous English instruction aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
- Lead students in the close reading and analysis of literary works and historical texts
- Teach grammar, composition, and rhetoric through structured writing instruction
- Facilitate thoughtful discussion and textual analysis through Socratic dialogue
- Provide detailed feedback on student writing to support clear and persuasive expression
- Assess student progress through essays, exams, projects, and other assessments
- Maintain strong communication with students and families in a virtual environment
- Participate in faculty collaboration, curriculum development, and professional development aligned with the Founders mission
- Use technology to support learning while preserving the text-centered nature of classical literary study
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Humanities, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of classical and Western literary traditions
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
- Ability to facilitate meaningful literary discussion
- Ability to teach effectively within a virtual instructional model
- Texas Teaching Certification (ELAR 4–8 or 7–12)
- Master’s degree in English, Literature, or Liberal Arts
- Experience teaching classical literature
- Experience with Socratic discussion and classical pedagogy
