Job SummaryThe position includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the History of the South (standard load 3 courses/semester), maintaining an active research agenda, advising students, and providing service to the department, college, and university.
Essential Duties- Teach undergraduate courses in the History of the South, including specialized topics.
- Develop and teach graduate seminars in the field.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including supervising thesis research.
- Maintain an active, independent, successful research program in the History of the South or a closely related field.
- Produce peer‑reviewed publications and present research at regional and national conferences.
- Pursue external funding opportunities to support scholarly activities.
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
- Engage in outreach activities with local historical societies, archives, and communities.
Ph.D. in History from an accredited institution (ABD candidates considered if degree by January 1, 2026).
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Required Experience- Specialization in History of the South (any chronological period or subfield).
- Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in university‑level teaching.
- A promising record of research and scholarship.
- Thematic expertise that complements current faculty strengths.
- Experience teaching U.S. history survey courses.
- Experience or interest in utilizing digital humanities tools in research and teaching.
