About the Position
Momentum Education seeks a SAT Instructor & Advisor to help first‑generation, low‑income students earn a college‑ready SAT score and successfully enroll in post‑secondary education. The SAT Instructor & Advisor will support a cohort of approximately 200 high school students through SAT preparation, college advising, and post‑secondary enrollment activities. This is a full‑time, in‑person position based at either Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena ISD or Mac Arthur High School in Aldine ISD.
The role reports to the Executive Director and works directly with students at partner high schools throughout the Greater Houston Area.
- Lead SAT Bootcamps during the school year
- Deliver engaging SAT Math and SAT Reading instruction to high school students in both small‑group and classroom settings
- Administer, grade, and analyze SAT practice tests
- Use student performance data to identify skill gaps and provide targeted intervention
- Support students who do not earn a college‑ready SAT score with Texas Success Initiative (TSI) preparation
- Monitor student attendance, engagement, and academic progress throughout the program
- Guide students through key post‑secondary enrollment milestones
- Support students with college applications, community college applications, and financial aid completion
- Assist students with scholarship searches and applications
- Help students complete summer enrollment tasks necessary to matriculate into college
- Build positive, trusting relationships with a cohort of approximately 200 high school students
- Communicate regularly with students regarding assignments, deadlines, testing dates, and program expectations
- Respond promptly to student messages through Momentum Education's communication platforms
- Conduct outreach to students who are disengaged or at‑risk of falling behind
- Maintain accurate student records in Salesforce and other Momentum systems
- Document student interactions, advising meetings, and interventions
- Track student progress toward program goals and organizational outcomes
- Complete administrative tasks and reporting requirements in a timely manner
- Demonstrated mastery of SAT Math and SAT Reading content through a Momentum‑administered assessment and demonstration lesson
- Demonstrated ability to motivate students and hold them accountable to ambitious academic goals
- Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring students, preferably in SAT, English Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, or a related subject
- A strong commitment to Momentum Education's mission and interest in remaining with the organization for three or more years
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfort using Salesforce, Google Workspace, Slack, Trello, Zoom, and AI tools such as ChatGPT
- Willingness to work in person at either Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena ISD or Mac Arthur High School in Aldine ISD
- Willingness to work typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with an hour for lunch; however, some days may start earlier or end later depending on student needs, testing schedules, projects, and deadlines
- A Bachelor's degree and authorization to work in the United States
- A personal cell phone and reliable transportation
- Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 annually, based on experience, instructional ability, and demonstrated SAT instructional proficiency
