Childcare Center Director

Assist the ELC Director in directing and managing the operations of the district childcare center. Plan and implement operations and programs following the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and district guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Child Development Associate credential or Certified Child Care Professional credential with six college credit hours in management or like field
  • Valid Child Care Center Director's Certificate issued by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services
  • CPR/ First Aid certified

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Knowledge of child development birth through age 5
  • Thorough understanding of childcare center operations
  • Effective organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate center functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state childcare guidelines and licensing requirements
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Experience:

    Four years experience in a licensed childcare center

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Child Care Operations
    • Maintain high quality childcare standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
    • Facilitate the planning and coordination of the children's educational programs and activities.
    • Assure consistent compliance with all Texas DFPS Minimum Standards, including maintenance of annual fire, health, and other inspections.
    • Coordinate the annual licensing of the childcare center with Texas DFPS.
    • Maintain consistent, open, and effective communication with parents while providing education training and support as needed.
    • Provide reliable, accurate, and timely information about the childcare center to interested parties.
    • Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
    • Maintain compliance with all Texas Rising Star standards.
    • Coordinate documentation and evidence for Texas Rising Star assessments.
    • Monitor classroom quality using Texas Rising Star observation tools.
    • Develop continuous quality improvement plans based on Texas Rising Star feedback.
    • Support teachers in implementing high-quality instructional practices aligned with Texas Rising Star.
    • Prepare classroom staffing schedules.
    • Maintain teacher-child ratios throughout the day.
    • Coordinate substitute coverage.
    • Monitor daily attendance.
    • Adjust staffing to remain in compliance with licensing.
    • Serve as Director in the Director's absence, including oversight of daily operations, licensing compliance, staffing, and parent communication.
  • Policy, Reports, and Law
    • Implement federal and state law, Department of Family Protective Services rule, and board policy
    • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
    • Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program to include their development, attendance, immunization, and general health.
    • Prepare reports to Child Protection Services (CPS) and other agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of enrollees.
    • Ensure employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to process payroll is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Licensing
    • Documentation kept current and organized:
      Maintain licensing records, Prepare for unannounced inspections, Track required staff training hours, Monitor expiration dates for CPR, background checks, physicals, and required documentation.
  • Budget and Inventory
    • Assist the Director with fiscal responsibility by developing and administering a budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
    • Develop and implement inventory and stock control programs for equipment and supplies and recommend replacement and disposal of obsolete equipment as necessary.
    • Execute an effective marketing plan (both internal and external) to maintain desired enrollment.
  • Professional Growth and Development
    • Assist in overseeing the training and professional development of all childcare staff.
  • School or Community Relations
    • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
    • Articulate the center's mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing the mission.
    • Interact with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and fairness.
  • Personnel Management
    • Coach teachers in developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
    • Support curriculum implementation and classroom assessments.
    • Conduct classroom observations and provide instructional feedback.
    • Model effective classroom management and positive behavior supports.
    • Promote play-based learning and intentional teaching strategies.
  • Safety
    • Ensure measures are in place and operating to protect students, staff, supplies, and equipment.
    • Maintain safety standards conforming with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
