Primary PurposeResponsible for assisting the head orchestra director in all aspects of the total orchestra program.
Qualifications / Skills- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or appropriate out-of-state teaching certificate
- Certification meets requirements for this position per federal/state law
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with adults and children
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning; evaluate each student's playing ability and place them into appropriate orchestra level.
- Organize and implement instrument selection for beginning orchestra students.
- Monitor contest rules and inform appropriate stakeholders.
- Continuously improve the quality of instruction through self‑evaluation and new teaching techniques.
- Enhance the image of the orchestra department through professionalism in all interactions.
- Assume responsibility for all instruments and equipment assigned to the organization.
- Keep the Director for Performing Arts and Building Principal informed of all matters related to the orchestra program.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods; conduct ongoing assessment through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor approved outside activities.
- Serve as a positive role model and support the school district mission.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the students' development; manage behavior per the Student Code of Conduct.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting instructional materials.
- Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers; maintain professional relationships.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in staff development; stay informed of regulations and policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file records.
- Attend faculty meetings and staff committees as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions- Mental Demands: maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, regular in‑person public interaction.
- Physical Demands: frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk, and other classroom equipment.
