Position:
Chair, Department of Chemistry
Under the general guidance of the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, the Department Chair will be responsible for the administrative and academic functions of the Department of Chemistry, including teaching, curricular development, research, funding, and accreditation.
- Assume responsibility for the administrative and academic functions of the department, manage course assignments and enrollment, oversee departmental budget, and conduct student advising.
- Teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
- Lead the faculty in continued curricular development.
- Engage in and promote active research, technology development, and industrial partnerships or collaborations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.
- Manage and maintain all departmental records and prepare reports in accordance with College procedures.
- Obtain and/or manage existing extracurricular grants and contracts independently or in collaboration with departmental faculty.
An earned doctorate in Chemistry is required.
ExperienceAmple evidence of a successful professional career in chemistry is required; the successful applicant must be qualified to be appointed with tenure at the rank of professor or above in the Department of Chemistry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Dynamic individuals with demonstrated leadership ability, commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and a record of scholarly achievement in a field of chemistry.
- Experience handling multiple and diverse tasks with some interrelationship across processes, including budget and expenditure authority.
- Ability to develop objectives, policies, and procedures within established operational goals; make decisions without supervision and solve complex problems.
- Regular contact with students, the public, and university personnel to explain, clarify, or interpret information, including handling confidential information.
- Anticipate customer needs, motivate others to deliver customer service excellence, troubleshoot sensitive or confidential issues, and implement customer feedback systems.
