Substitute Teacher
Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success (RYSS) reports to Campus Principal. Department/School:
All Brownsville Schools. Exemption Status/Test:
Exempt/Professional. Daily Substitute Rates:
Bachelor's Degreed: $144 TEA Certified*: $160 (

Primary
Purpose:
To provide high-quality instruction and supervision to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute will implement lesson plans and instructional strategies aligned with the mission and academic goals of RYSS, ensuring continuity of learning and student success.
Education/Certification:
A minimum of 60 college hours or Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required. Valid Texas teaching certificate is preferred. Demonstrated competency in assigned subject area.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of core academic content and instructional best practices. Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching and diverse learning needs. Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to integrate technology into instruction effectively. Prior experience teaching or working with students in an educational setting preferred.
Instructional Strategies:
Deliver instruction based on lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or campus leadership. Adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs of RYSS students, including English learners and students with special needs. Collaborate with special education staff to implement accommodations and modifications per IEPs. Use instructional technology and culturally relevant materials to enhance student engagement.
Student Growth and Development:
Monitor and assess student progress through informal and formal assessments. Serve as a positive role model aligned with the values and mission of RYSS. Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
Classroom Management and Organization:
Maintain accurate attendance and student records. Uphold RYSS's Student Code of Conduct and behavioral expectations. Ensure student safety and maintain a clean, organized classroom. Submit a summary report or feedback form at the end of the assignment.
Communication:
Maintain professional and respectful communication with students, staff, and families. Support a collaborative school culture and participate in team meetings as needed.
Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in RYSS substitute orientation and ongoing professional development. Stay informed of school policies, procedures, and instructional initiatives.
Other Duties:
Follow all RYSS safety protocols and emergency procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.

Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting (up to 15 lbs). Environment:
Primarily indoors; may include outdoor supervision duties. Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress; flexible with schedule and assignments.
