Position: Special Education Campus IEP Specialist - School Year 2026-2027 (Anticipated Vacancies)

Special Education Campus IEP Specialist

Responsible for the coordination of special education programs and the implementation of the ARD process.

Education/Certification:

Master's degree or higher from recognized, accredited college or university, preferred. Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position preferred. Valid Texas supervisor's, mid-management, principalship or licensed professional counselor's certification, diagnostician's certificate, licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a LSSP, certified in special education, or qualified for a special assignment permit in supervision, mid-management or counseling preferred.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in the effective use of technology. Physical capacity to meet needs of students with physical disabilities. Ability to work effectively with both adults and children.

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, preferred.

Major

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of Services:
    Collaborate with general and special education teachers, administrators and parents to provide education support for students with disabilities. Provide technical assistance to instructional staff concerning the teaching/learning process. Assist general education teachers in implementation of individual student accommodations and modifications as designed by ARD committees. Assist teachers and assistant principals in designing effective behavioral interventions for students experiencing behavioral difficulties.

    Serve and chair as administrative representative for ARD meetings, as assigned. Provide staff development for campus personnel related to Special Education processes, requirements, etc. Perform functions related to assessment as it relates to the special education evaluation process.
  • Student Growth and Development:
    Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district. Assist with needs of students with physical disabilities. Schedule student staffings to support and resolve student, teacher or parental concerns.

    Provide leadership to programming and course selection for students with disabilities. Keep abreast of current issues and methodologies in the education of students with disabilities.
  • Classroom Management and Organization:
    Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials. Attend required meetings and complete required reports.
  • Communication:
    Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Collaborate with others to provide for learner needs. Consult with parents and other appropriate school personnel concerning each student's intellectual, academic social, emotional and physical development.
  • Professional Growth and Development:
    Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerizes reports, records and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Other:
    Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk and other classroom equipment. May require occasional extended hours.
