Special Education Teacher Assistant-Transition Program
Assist young adults and teachers in the special education TOPS program, which is a program focusing on job training.
Qualifications/
Skills:
- Education/Certification:
Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification. - Obtained or Ability to Obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License to transport students preferred.
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Ability to work with young adults using appropriate interpersonal skills. Ability to work and communicate with children and adults effectively. Effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Major
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructional Support:
Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of teaching personnel. Assist in maintaining student records. Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of job training materials and equipment. Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills. Follow teacher instruction and guidance. - Student Management:
Assist in maintaining student records. Assist in supervising student grooming activities. Supervise students in job related settings. - Other:
Participate in planned inservice and professional growth activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:
Computer and various office equipment.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment. Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.)
