Primary PurposeResponsible for the instructional program and guidance of students identified as needing special education services.
Qualifications / Skills- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or out‑of‑state teaching certificate appropriate for the position.
- Special education certificate.
- ESL certification required in the first year if not already obtained.
- Certification must meet federal and state requirements for this position.
- Extensive knowledge of disabling conditions and their impact on student performance.
- Excellent knowledge of instructional and behavioral accommodations and interventions for students with disabilities.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans for students with moderate to severe behavior concerns.
- Proficiency in collecting data to establish strengths, needs, and goals for specially designed instruction and progress monitoring.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in the effective use of technology.
- Physical capacity to meet the needs of students with physical disabilities.
- Ability to work effectively with both adults and children.
Instructional Strategies:
- Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
- Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles, presenting subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Participate in the identification and evaluation of learner competencies.
- Recommend appropriate goals and objectives for learner needs.
- Assist in developing and writing students' IEPs.
- Follow specific instructional objectives based on individual student learning styles.
- Implement new methodologies, philosophies, and innovations.
Student Growth and Development:
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Assist students with physical disabilities.
Classroom Management and Organization:
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students; manage behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional materials.
- Attend required meetings and complete required reports.
Communication:
- Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and community members through conferences and other interactions.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Collaborate with others to address learner needs.
- Consult with parents and appropriate school personnel regarding each student's intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
- Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and documents.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other:
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Maintain emotional control under stress.

- Regular in‑person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom items.
- May require occasional extended hours.
