The job of the Behavior Technician is to provide social, emotional, and co‑regulatory support to the school program. The technician assists in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special education needs in a self‑contained classroom, monitors student behavior during nonclassroom time, provides information to appropriate school personnel, and assists with data collection as needed.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Implement student behavioral plans designed by the IEP team and intervention plans under the supervision of an assigned teacher, presenting and reinforcing concepts necessary for success in the school environment.
- Respond to calls for assistance and offer direct support across all school environments to regulate, relate, and reason with students.
- Collaborate with the school's social‑emotional team and educators to improve response protocols and procedures in alignment with therapeutic practices.
- Implement preventative and responsive restorative practices to ensure equitable opportunities.
- Assist in data collection and documentation of students’ Behavior Intervention Plans, IEP goals and objectives, school-wide data, ISBE reporting, and Medicaid logging under the supervision of the case manager.
- Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as needed, following instructions from a health care professional.
- Assist the teacher with students who may require physical assistance and intervention.
- Actively engage in meetings and in-service presentations (e.g., therapeutic crisis intervention, emergency procedures) to acquire or convey information related to job functions.
- Assist teachers with providing a balanced curriculum that encourages social and cultural awareness, predicts and tests behaviors, offers choices of learning center activities, and includes large/small group and individual activities for language, cognitive, fine and gross motor development.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience with youth in care or related job experience preferred.
- Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute (SUB), Professional Educator License (PEL), or Educator License with Stipulations (TBE) required.
Salary Range: $38,000–$42,500
