Primary PurposeThe position of Community Academic Structured Education (CASE) teacher is designed for the educator who wants to serve and support students with low incidence disabilities to ensure they develop the academic, social, and vocational skills needed for success in the post‑school environment. The CASE teacher is responsible for providing a comprehensive program of academics, social skills, independent living, and self‑care for assigned students on the school campus and in community settings.
Qualifications- Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements and levels assigned (Special Education and General Education)
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Preferred: One year of student teaching or approved internship
- Experience working with students eligible for special education supports and services
- Valid Texas ESL certification
- CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
- Experience working with students eligible for special education supports and services with low incidence disabilities
- Knowledge of the ARD Committee process and IEP goal setting and implementation
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction at the prerequisite level
- Ability to instruct students, manage behavior, and maintain a structured learning environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong technology skills, including technology integration
- Develop and implement instructional plans to assist students in learning and mainstreaming skills using programmed materials in an orderly classroom environment
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs), monitor, and document student progress
- Communicate regularly with parents to review student progress
- Organize, plan, and participate in community trips per the students’ IEPs
- Develop toilet training, diapering, and clean‑up procedures as needed
- Implement and monitor plans for feeding or feeding instructions
- Assist with the implementation of programs developed by related services personnel
- Maintain confidentiality of student and parent information
- Maintain flexible working relationships and provide support to paraprofessionals assigned
- Maintain CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training
- Participate in professional development for students on an alternative curriculum, autism, and intellectual disabilities
- Serve as the students’ case manager, including:
- Coordinate and document the Admission, Review and Dismissal/Individual Education Plan committee for each student
- Ensure appropriately written Standards Based Individualized Education Programs (SBIEP)
- Ensure the IEP is implemented with fidelity in all school settings
- Evaluate and monitor individual student progress based on academic and behavioral data collection
- Participate in placement decisions based on educational, social, and behavioral data presented to the committee
- Maintain documentation of implementation of services per the students’ IEPs
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Uniform physical demands include mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, and repetitive hand motions. The role may require lifting or positioning students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, and assisting non‑ambulatory students. Mental demands include maintaining emotional control under stress, solving problems, dealing with diverse situations, interpreting data, and effective oral and written communication.
