General SummaryThe Youth Build GED & Penn Foster Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality academic instruction, educational coaching, and student support services to Youth Build participants. This position delivers GED preparation, facilitates Penn Foster coursework, monitors academic progress, and helps participants develop the skills necessary to achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.
The Instructor creates an engaging and supportive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, workforce readiness, leadership development, and successful completion of Youth Build program requirements. This position works closely with case managers, vocational instructors, and community partners to ensure students receive comprehensive support toward graduation, credential attainment, and employment.
Duties And Responsibilities General Responsibilities- Deliver GED preparation instruction in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
- Facilitate and support Penn Foster online coursework and academic completion requirements.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional activities, assessments, and educational materials aligned with GED standards and Penn Foster curriculum requirements.
- Provide differentiated instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and educational backgrounds.
- Administer academic assessments and utilize data to guide instructional strategies.
- Conduct individual and small-group tutoring sessions to improve student performance.
- Monitor student attendance, participation, academic progress, and credential attainment.
- Assist participants in establishing educational and career goals.
- Support students in developing study skills, time management, and personal accountability.
- Foster leadership development and positive decision-making.
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Maintain a classroom culture that is respectful, inclusive, trauma-informed, and supportive.
- Maintain accurate educational records and documentation.
- Track participant progress toward GED completion, Penn Foster milestones, certifications, and program outcomes.
- Coordinate with Youth Build staff regarding participant attendance, barriers, and academic performance.
- Participate in participant recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and Momentum Week activities.
- Assist with educational testing, TABE assessments, and educational evaluations.
- Support participants transitioning into post-secondary education, apprenticeships, employment, or advanced training opportunities.
- Participate in program meetings, case conferences, staff development, and training activities.
- Collaborate with educational partners, workforce agencies, community organizations, and supportive service providers.
- Participate in educational and workforce-related events, workshops, and career fairs.
- Promote participant engagement in community service and leadership opportunities.
- Receives supervision from the Youth Build Program Manager.
- Provides classroom supervision and instructional leadership for Youth Build participants.
- Reports participant concerns, safety issues, and behavioral incidents to program leadership.
- Supports implementation of participant accountability and disciplinary procedures.

The Instructor exercises independent judgment regarding instructional delivery, student interventions, classroom management, and educational planning while consulting program leadership regarding policy, compliance, and participant disciplinary matters.
Physical Demands- Work is principally sedentary, but may involve some physical exertion, such as kneeling, crouching, or lifting to obtain files and records, and eye strain from abundant reading requirements, working with computers, and other office equipment.
- Work involves the normal risks and discomforts associated with an office environment but are usually in an area that is adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated.
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Adult Education, Human Services, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of teaching, tutoring, or educational support experience.
- Experience teaching GED preparation, adult education, alternative education, or workforce development programs.
- Experience utilizing online learning platforms and educational technology.
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred

- Texas Teaching Certification.
