Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, enabling them to develop competencies and skills for successful functioning in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned
  • Physical Education teachers:
    Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Probationary/Term

Contract:

187 days.

Salary

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees.

Essential Functions
  • Attendance:
    Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum program requirements and record written evidence of preparation.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology reflecting students’ learning styles and needs; present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula when needed for special education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
Student Growth and Development
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for approved extracurricular activities or outside activities for which the teacher is the sponsor.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct the work of instructional aide(s), if assigned.

Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands
  • Tools/Equipment:
    Personal computer, instructional equipment;
    Physical Education teachers: AED and CPR certificate.
  • Posture:
    Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting.

    Frequent walking.
