Provide students with significant cognitive and adaptive disabilities a structured, supportive learning environment that focuses on functional academics, daily living skills, communication, and independence to prepare them for post-school success.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in:
- Special Education EC–12
- Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities preferred
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned to student needs
- Provide instruction in:
- Functional academics (reading, math, money skills)
- Daily living skills (hygiene, cooking, cleaning)
- Social and communication skills
- Modify curriculum and use evidence-based instructional strategies for diverse learners
- Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment as needed
- Create a structured classroom that supports behavioral, sensory, and academic needs
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and monitor student progress
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment
- Work closely with:
- General education teachers
- Paraprofessionals
- Related service providers (speech, OT, PT)
- Campus administrators
- Train and supervise instructional aides assigned to the classroom
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
- Maintain accurate and compliant records (ARD documentation, progress reports)
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and communicate effectively with parents
- Support students in developing life and vocational skills
- Assist with transition goals related to employment, independent living, and community participation
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (may assist students physically)
- May include toileting, feeding, and personal care responsibilities
- Work with students exhibiting significant behavioral and physical needs
- Starting Salary $67,200
- Salary commensurate with experience
- Works 187 Day Calendar
- Remote work is not available for this role.
