Purpose:
To develop in each student an understanding of the role of good body function and exercise; to motivate each student to pursue physical fitness, hygienic habits, and social/emotional adjustment; to discover and develop students’ talents in physical achievement; and to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each student’s ability.
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them reach their full intellectual, emotional, physical, and social potential.
Qualifications- • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
- • Must possess or obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with specific endorsements for operating a school bus.
- • Knowledge of subjects assigned and general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
- Manage and supervise athletic activities and practice sessions to promote individual growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and any athletic activity on and off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
- Transport students in district vehicles after acquiring a Texas CDL.
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms, dance, and individual, dual, or team sports.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state law and district regulations.
- Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers to plan a balanced physical education program.
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of movement.
- Plan lessons that fulfill the district’s curriculum program requirements and provide written evidence of preparation using technology.
- Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, materials, and equipment that reflect students’ learning styles and needs.
- Cooperate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Teach physical education classes for handicapped students, interscholastic athletics, or drill team as needed.
- Provide safety instruction and conduct equipment and field safety checks.
- Maintain control of storage and use of school-owned property.
- Establish and maintain student behavior standards in the physical education areas.
- Evaluate each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and team contribution.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Participate cooperatively with administrators in developing evaluation methods.
- Select and requisition uniforms, equipment, and instructional aides; maintain inventory records.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with staff to solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the work day.
- Assist in curriculum and developmental programs, including selection of books and instructional materials.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsor student activities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records.
