Job DescriptionThe Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher position is designed for an educator who strives to positively impact classroom success for preschool students eligible for special education supports and services in a general education preschool setting. The ECSE Teacher is responsible for providing preschool students with a comprehensive continuum of services for ages 3‑5, targeting developmental delays in one or more of five developmental areas.
Instruction includes pre‑academics, social/emotional skills, self‑help independence, communication and motor skill development. The continuum of services includes blended pre‑K inclusion (co‑teaching) and self‑contained ECSE settings.
Work is guided by the general education curriculum, preschool alternative curriculum, district policies, and state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications- College degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements and level assigned
- One year of student teaching or approved internship
- Valid Texas ESL teaching certificate
- Experience working with students eligible for special education supports and services
- Knowledge of the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and IEP goal setting and implementation
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students, manage behavior, and collaborate in the learning environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong technology skills including integration
- Knowledge of early childhood development and instruction
- Flexible and patient
- Developing and implementing instructional plans to assist students in accessing the general curriculum and meeting standards
- Participating in Data Driven Action Planning (DDAP) Professional Learning Community meetings with general education teachers to plan, practice, and provide accommodations for student needs
- Providing instruction collaboratively with the general education teacher as per trained models
- Preparing and documenting lesson plans in accordance with district standards and procedures
- Teaching alternate curriculum based on TEKS prerequisites and essential skills
- Teaching pre‑academics, social/emotional, self‑help independence, communication and motor skills
- Providing opportunities for students to engage with peers in academic and non‑academic settings
- Implementing IEPs, monitoring and documenting student progress
- Providing parents with written information regarding student progress on IEP goals at least once per grading period
- Maintaining confidentiality of student and parent information
- Developing IEP goals and objectives based on formal and informal evaluation methods
- Maintaining appropriate data collection each grading period and using a variety of tools to assess student skills and progress
- Maintaining accurate paperwork for compliance purposes in the campus student folder
- Maintaining documentation of services provided to students, including time, student name, and description of services related to IEP implementation
- Maintaining lesson plans or data collection forms indicating objectives addressed, activities planned, and attendance
- Preparing and incorporating lesson plan materials needed for student IEP goals and objectives
- Participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities to maintain competence
