Job DescriptionProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
QualificationsEducation / Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned
- Current ESL certification required within two years of employment for teachers hired in the school year
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Gifted teachers must have 30 hours of approved gifted instruction hours
Special Knowledge /
Skills:
- Knowledge of subject matter in the assigned position
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Completion of student teaching or approved internship
- Serve a diverse population of students, including those participating in state and federal programs and general education
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members
- Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility
- Maintain an attendance rate of 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies)
- Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators regularly per building and district guidelines
- Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
- Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations, and administrative directives as they exist or may be amended
- Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency, district mandates, and curricula
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA requirements and demonstrate written evidence of preparation as required
- Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per ARD, LPAC, Section 504, and RTI committees for students receiving services under all district, state, and federal guidelines
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula for struggling students according to IEP guidelines
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements
- Diagnose learning needs of all students and seek assistance from building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques, and strategies
- Assess ongoing accomplishments and needs of students, maintain appropriate records, and provide immediate feedback and progress reports per building and district guidelines
- Administer state assessments as appropriate to the student population; use small‑group instruction as needed
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
- Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district
- Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, and warm learning environment appropriate to developmental level and interests
- Implement an effective discipline management system aligned with building and district policies and the Student Code of Conduct
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records
- Participate in professional development activities to improve job‑related skills
- Comply with state, district, and federal laws, campus regulations, and policies for classroom teachers as they exist or may be amended
