Job Description

This is a project-based position for the House Bill 3 Reading Academies from July 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027. Positions will be renewed annually based on initiative requirements. Applicants must demonstrate successful completion (passing score) of the Cohort Leader Screener to interview for this position.

Department: Literacy and Language

Reports To: Department Director

Job Goal: Support teachers’ professional growth in the area of literacy by implementing the Reading Academies as designed by the Texas Education Agency and engaging in the Reading Academy required activities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university

Certification & Licensure:

  • Texas Teacher Certificate for the appropriate content and grade levels
  • Passing grade on the Cohort Leader Screener
  • Completed the required Reading Academies Cohort Leader Training

Experience:

  • Five years of teaching experience in the area of literacy with a proven track record of measurable student achievement
  • Coaching experience in the area of literacy with a proven track record of measurable student achievement
  • Experience in Kindergarten through Grade 3, preferred
  • Experience in the area of dyslexia, bilingual/ESL, and/or as a Reading Academies Comprehensive Model Cohort Leader, preferred

Special Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Broad-based knowledge of effective literacy coaching
  • Broad-based knowledge of effectively delivering professional development
  • Broad-based knowledge of effectively using a rubric to grade artifacts
  • Broad-based knowledge of data-driven instructional practices
  • Broad-based knowledge of how to motivate other adults to achieve a common goal
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills that are respectful and inclusive

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education
  • Recent classroom or campus experience
  • Experience in leading teacher teams
  • Experience implementing new initiatives or systems
Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Reading Academies as defined by the Texas Education Agency
  • Facilitate discussions, provide feedback, and evaluate artifacts using a Learning Management System (Canvas) to implement the Reading Academies content
  • Collaborate with school and district leadership regarding the progress of literacy instruction and achievement
  • Attend all ongoing TEA and Region 4 trainings and meetings throughout the duration of the project
  • Conduct professional development sessions during the summer and throughout the year, as necessary in the role of Comprehensive Coach
  • Provide one‑on‑one instructional coaching to teachers and administrators, as necessary in the role of Comprehensive Coach
  • Provide technical assistance and services as specified by the initiative guidelines and Region 4 processes and procedures

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in center initiatives that involve supporting school district educators at all levels
  • Develop, present, and facilitate effective professional development, specifically in high‑need areas such as dyslexia, bilingual/ESL, and/or state initiatives related to literacy
  • Engage in professional development to maintain knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility

Physical Demands and Environmental Factors

Frequent use of standard office equipment; prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions (keyboarding and use of mouse); occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may work prolonged and irregular hours; occasional statewide travel; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure.
