Purpose

Collaborate with and support grade level teachers to design and deliver lessons and activities that will provide challenge and rigor for our Kinder through Fifth Grade high achieving students who do not have the opportunity to attend SPIRAL as well as GT students. Provide push‑in or pull‑out enrichment intervention for our high achieving students in reading, writing, math and/or science.

Qualifications & Skills Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or teaching certificate from out of state appropriate for the position preferred.
  • Gifted and Talented Certification, Texas Supplemental Certification preferred over the 30‑hour certification.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to progress high achieving students in reading, writing, math, and science.
  • Expertise in providing enhancements to the curriculum in the form of enriching push‑in or pull‑out instruction.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient use of technology, including Google Suite.
Experience
  • Five (5) years teaching experience with gifted and talented students in primary and intermediate grades, preferred.
  • Experience working with high achieving students who are not identified as gifted and talented.
  • Experience planning and implementing enriching activities that enhance the curriculum.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Instruction
  • Adhere to the district’s philosophy of instruction.
  • In collaboration with classroom teachers, develop and implement plans for small‑group instruction for high‑achieving students in Kinder‑Fifth grade that enrich the required curriculum and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Identify and work with high‑achieving students to ensure they demonstrate growth in reading, writing, math, and science throughout the year.
  • Conduct assessment of students’ learning strengths and interests and use results to plan challenging instructional lessons.
  • Collaborate with teachers to modify curricula as needed for high‑achieving students.
  • Present challenging, enriching lessons/activities for the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve work habits to persist when tasks are difficult.
  • Help students set and monitor personal learning goals to challenge their learning.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Act as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Student Behavior Management and Organization
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Maintain consistency and flexibility in scheduling.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all digital and physical reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication
  • Build relationships, establish trust and credibility with colleagues, students, parents, and community members to effectively support high‑achieving students and their teachers.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Attend and participate in weekly grade‑level PLC collaborative meetings.
  • Attend and participate in weekly HCE Interventionist Team Meeting.
  • Consistent communication with teachers and parents of students in intervention groups.
  • Monitor progress on goals for the RtI process, if needed.
