To assist students in learning content and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate that includes Health Education or a Health endorsement
- Current ESL Certification: within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010–2011 school year
- Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria as required by assignment.
- Meets district minimum requirements for content area staff development (or will meet within one (1) year)
- Teaching Technology Applications experience preferred
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and time management skills
- Three (3) years classroom teaching experience
- Plan and teach a program of study integrating technology and health education.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives.
- Employ appropriate instructional methods and materials.
- Assess students’ accomplishments, continually.
- Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures.
- Assist in implementing policies and rules.
- Maintain professional competence through professional development.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities.
- Implement classroom modifications for special education/504 students.
- Actively seek and participate in health and instructional technology professional growth.
- Comply with state, district, and federal laws; district and campus regulations and policies for instructional specialists as they exist or may hereafter be amended.
- Participate in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned

EvaluationPerformance in this role is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Teachers, the Texas Teachers Evaluation and Support System.
Physical and Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds);
May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Probationary contract –187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district
Salary Overview New Salary Schedule
Minimum teacher starting salary is $67,100 (base $64,700 + $2,400 Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) stipend)
Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.
Note:
TRA/SRA (Teacher and Staff Retention Allotment) amount is in addition to the regular salary listed.
