Job Summary

The Weekend Reference Librarian provides reference research assistance to students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons. The weekend reference librarian provides coverage in collaboration with another weekend librarian on Saturdays and Sundays during regular semester hours working up to 10 hours per weekend. The librarian provides remote reference service when there are no weekend hours on the academic calendar.

Duties
  • Provides reference research assistance to students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons using books and databases as well as online open educational resources
  • Investigates current issues in academic reference librarianship and participates in professional development activities
  • Supervises the operation of the library s computer lab
  • Serves as the supervisor in charge of the library operation as necessary
  • Supervises student workers
  • Prepares lesson plans and teaches library instruction classes as required
Marginal Duties
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Supervises student workers

  • Regularly assigns work to subordinate(s)

Supervision Given:

  • Supervises the work of student employees.
Qualifications

Required

Education:

  • Master s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from a University accredited by the American Library Association

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience

License/Certification:

  • None Required

  • Supervisory experience
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of a wide range of academic databases
  • Knowledge of technological trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to academic libraries

Skills:

  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community
Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary

Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment, computer laboratory, or library environment

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements;
  • Individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks
  • Must have precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must have the ability to move items of up to 20lbs
