Responsible for the academic growth of students in the elementary schools.
Qualifications & Skills- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or an appropriate out‑of‑state teaching certificate. ESL Certification required during the first year if not already obtained.
- Content exam and Science of Teaching Reading exam requirements met, if applicable.
- Certification must meet all federal and state requirements for qualification and continued eligibility.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in effective use of technology.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Adhere to the district’s philosophy of instruction. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines of the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use the results to plan instructional activities.
- Collaborate with the special education teacher to modify curricula for special education students per Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and required documents.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
