Primary

Purpose:

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED (required)

48 college credit hours, associate's degree, or passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment of Academic Skills (required)

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

* Provide one-on-one tutoring if such tutoring is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.

* Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional materials.

* Provide instructional assistance in a computer laboratory.

* Conduct parental engagement activities.

* Provide instructional support in a library or media center.

* Act as a translator if bilingual

* Provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of an appropriately certified teacher.

* Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials.

* Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

* Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

* Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

* Assist teacher in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.

* Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

* Perform all other duties as assigned and related to the grant award.

Student Management

* Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.

* Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty, if applicable.

* Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

* Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

* Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The employee is expected to maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing, moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment are required while performing the duties of this job.

Equipment Used:

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.

* Minimum Salary $14.83 hourly

* Salary is commensurate with experience

* Works 187 Day Calendar

* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
