The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Houston's Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at any rank (Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor) in the field of Physiology.

As a member of our dynamic team, the faculty member will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of medical professionals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking institution committed to innovative medical education and research.

The faculty member is expected to support the design and delivery of physiology content in an integrated, cross-disciplinary, active learning-based curriculum.

Applicants must possess a PhD in physiology (or related discipline) or an MD/DO degree, with experience in undergraduate medical education or health professions educational settings. Currently, all faculty positions in the College of Medicine are offered on a non-tenure track basis.

Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach integrated medical physiology content to undergraduate medical students, utilizing traditional, interactive, and active learning modalities.
  • Develop and deliver a horizontally and vertically integrated pre-clerkship curriculum within faculty teams.
  • Develop both formative and summative assessments for physiology and integrated biomedical sciences content.
  • Participate in accreditation activities.
  • Supervise student scholarly projects and serve as an advisor to medical students.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of College of Medicine (COM) faculty and students.
  • Pursue research and produce scholarly works.
  • Hold membership on College of Medicine and University committees.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal degree:
    PhD in physiology, MD, DO, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and engaging health professional students, which may include oversight of classroom, clinical, or laboratory learning environments
  • Evidence of publications or scholarly works appropriate for the academic rank being sought.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based teaching best practices, including the integration of active learning strategies and innovative pedagogical methods to enhance student engagement and success in medical education.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, including the capacity to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and diverse stakeholders to foster a positive, and supportive educational environment.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teamwork, including the ability to lead initiatives, work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the advancement of institutional goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide academic guidance and mentoring to health professional students, supporting their success and professional growth.
