Social Studies Teacher

Primary

Purpose:

Provide students with rigorous instruction in Social Studies aligned with state standards (TEKS) and early college expectations. Facilitate dual credit readiness and academic success through engaging lessons that prepare students for college-level coursework and civic engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification:

    Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Social Studies content specialization
  • ESL Certification (or willingness to obtain within first year) [Preferred]
  • Master's degree or 18+ graduate hours in history/government for dual credit eligibility

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of TEKS for high school Social Studies
  • Familiarity with college readiness standards and dual credit expectations
  • Ability to deliver engaging, student-centered instruction
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching strategies

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of successful classroom teaching experience (preferred)
  • Experience with diverse student populations and/or at-risk learners

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Instructional Strategies:
    Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEKS and college preparatory goals. Design engaging, inquiry-based, and cross-curricular lessons. Incorporate primary sources, technology, project-based learning, and cooperative strategies.
  • Student Achievement:
    Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments. Provide interventions and supports to meet academic needs and close achievement gaps. Prepare students for EOC exams and support college entrance readiness.
  • Classroom Management:
    Create a respectful, inclusive, and orderly classroom environment. Use restorative practices and proactive behavior strategies.
  • Professionalism &

    Collaboration:

    Work closely with college instructors, counselors, and instructional coaches. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about academic progress. Participate in campus PLCs, professional development, and school events.

    Maintain emotional control under stress, manage multiple priorities
  • Physical Demands:
    Standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds

* Salary is commensurate with experience
* Minimum Salary $67,200
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
