Job Description
The Part‑time Tutor provides tutoring and related services to students and community members who need learning assistance in assigned discipline(s) and study skills. The role creates an atmosphere conducive to learning and supports student academic success, institutional service, and professional development.
Essential Job Functions- Deliver tutoring services to students at scheduled times (individual or group sessions).
- Maintain a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments.
- Assist students with the development of study skills necessary for post‑secondary education.
- Keep regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
- Monitor and review student work, modifying and personalizing tutoring strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
- Encourage students to take responsibility for their progress.
- Collaborate with LSC staff and/or faculty to obtain course syllabi or materials and develop tutoring materials.
- Provide feedback to staff and/or faculty regarding student progress.
- Engage in professional education through research and review of relevant material related to the assigned subject matter.
- Assist with additional duties as needed (e.g., Courtesy Counter support, answering phones, organizing materials, checking out resources).
- Complete and submit required documents in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participate in departmental meetings as required.
- Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the assigned discipline’s subject matter.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Commitment to quality service to students.
- Ability and commitment to work collaboratively.
- Capacity to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision.
The work is sedentary and generally requires sitting. Occasional walking, standing, bending, or light carrying may be required. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Use of PC workstation, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
- Interaction with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
- Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
- Schedule varies semester to semester and may include evenings and weekends.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required.
Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60 – $28.90.
