Overview

Department: Pre-Health Advising

Salary: $43,000 to $48,900

Description

Provides comprehensive advising to a diverse student population with moderate independence. Handles more complex cases and supports student success initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Advises students on academic planning and degree completion strategies, as well as academic progress concerns (probation, retention).
  • Analyzes degree audits and recommends solutions.
  • Identifies at-risk students and develops intervention plans.
  • Participates in recruitment, advising workshops, and outreach.
  • Collaborates with faculty and departments on student issues.
  • Maintains caseload of students and tracks outcomes.
  • Processes Veteran's Administration paperwork, writes graduation verification letters, and provides financial aid appeals.
  • May assist in recruiting high school and community college students and may make presentations at special events.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
  • Additional Duties
  • Responsible for the day-to-day advising in Health Professions Advising, to include student academic advising in multiple program prerequisites and competitiveness for chosen programs, as well as other related duties. This position is not remote, and employees are required to be on campus during a typical workday. The advisor works with students who have high level professional goals and span a multitude of majors;

    considers student/university goals for degree completion along with growing a student as a strong candidate for their chosen health profession. This position is ideal for a student-centered advisor who values the individual circumstances and strengths of each student and can have honest and at times difficult conversations.
  • The ideal candidate should possess the following
  • Experience in a University setting, preferably in a STEM, health professions, or health degree related academic advising office.
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, problem solve, exercise excellent judgment, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and adapt to shifting priorities in a diverse setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with experience working effectively with both internal staff and external partners.
  • Ability to show compassion and effective communication to students and their concerns, especially when having difficult conversations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and monitor multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Ability to clearly interpret and implement policies and procedures of the office, university, and external partners such as professional schools and application services.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, People Soft and EAB Navigate.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience working in a STEM, health degree related, or health professions academic advising office.
