Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Current ESL Certification: required within 2 years of employment for teachers hired in the  school year
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours required
  • Knowledge of subject matter in assigned position
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Completion of student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
  • Confer with and foster professional relationships on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
  • Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
  • Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may hereafter be amended.
Instructional Strategies
  • Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA and district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of learning styles and needs.
  • Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or accommodations per ARD, LPAC, Section 504, and RtI committees for students receiving services.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula for struggling general education and special education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Diagnose student learning needs and seek assistance from building and district leadership for interventions.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assess ongoing accomplishments and needs of students, maintain records, provide feedback and progress reports regularly. Administer state assessments as appropriate. Utilize small group instruction.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Act as a positive role model for students and support the district mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create an inviting, risk‑free, supportive, and warm learning environment appropriate to the developmental level and interests of students.
  • Implement an effective discipline management system aligned with building and district policies.
  • Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and federal laws and district and campus regulations for classroom teachers as amended.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
