Provide expertise to support college curriculum and programs. Establish courses per higher education standards, teach using varied methodologies, and offer engaging activities to support student learning. The role encompasses teaching, learning, academic advising, professional development, and institutional and community service. The incumbent will teach the maximum load as indicated in the Faculty Guidelines each semester in areas of competency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTeaching:
- Demonstrate skill and knowledge in teaching disciplines.
- Continuously improve instruction by using innovative methods, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Develop and submit a syllabus for each course following college, discipline, and departmental guidelines.
- Plan, develop, and use varied teaching methods and materials for diverse students.
- Evaluate students to measure progress toward course objectives and provide timely feedback.
- Keep accurate student records and submit related reports within requested timelines.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
- Teach courses at various times and locations as needed.
- Use equipment and facilities responsibly, assist with maintenance of instructional laboratories.
- Demonstrate competence in technology use and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
Academic Advising:
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Provide access through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other methods.
- Offer advice regarding instructional or program‑specific issues.
- Make presentations on academic fields or programs, including opportunities, support services, scholarships, etc.
- Create and maintain a website detailing such information.
- Collaborate with the Chair on academic advising activities as needed.
Professional Development:
- Establish annual objectives for growth in consultation with the department chair.
- Stay current with developments in the discipline and in technologies that support student learning.
- Participate in evaluation processes for self, department, and college.
Institutional and Community Service:
- Participate in scheduled institutional service activities including opening week events, conference days, and commencement exercises.
- Attend discipline committee or program meetings and activities.
- Engage in department, college or system meetings and committees.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of HCCS.
- Participate in college‑related activities such as student activities, faculty selection, community education, student recruitment, and special programs.
- Engage in business and/or student activities that promote the mission of HCCS.
- Maintain accreditation standards through required activities.
- Assist in the planning process by contributing to departmental objectives, goals, and budget priorities.
- Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula to assure compliance with professional standards and guidelines.
- Assist in articulating courses and programs with secondary and post‑secondary institutions.
Education: High school diploma or GED, AAS or Bachelor's Degree preferred. A photocopy of the transcript showing degree conferred must accompany the application.
Experience: 36 months work experience in related fields, including Leadership, Communication, Conflict Resolution, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work in a diverse environment.
- Willing and able to teach day, evening or weekend classes at various sites.
- Knowledge and skill in computer usage and software.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
