Salary: $22,540 to $30,127 Per Year

Primary Purpose

To provide opportunities for the teacher to attend to the individual needs of Bilingual/Dual Language students in Bilingual/Dual Language Classrooms. To work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material, language or skills taught by the teacher.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED; qualify for appropriate state paraprofessional certification.
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; demonstrate interest and aptitude for work to be performed; computer skills preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Program Management

  • Assist in carrying out the district’s goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure and developing the target languages.
  • Check and record student attendance.
  • Reproduce instructional materials that support dual language classrooms.
  • Type forms and instructional materials.
  • Distribute and collect materials for instruction.
  • Administer, score and record achievement and diagnostic tests, scores objective-type teacher-made tests and quizzes, and record grades as the teacher recommends for students.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material, language or skills taught by the teacher.
  • Catalog and file instructional materials and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment and prepare orders or requisitions for needed materials.
  • Read to students, listen to students retell, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students to develop the target languages.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teachers.
  • Keep bulletin boards and other classroom displays up to date.
  • Operate equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Assist students in the library or media center.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, play periods, and transitions.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as is expected of teachers.
  • Participate in staff development training programs as assigned.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

  • Tools/Equipment Used:
    Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
  • Posture:
    Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion:
    Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head.
  • Lifting:
    Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds).
  • Environment:
    May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible frequent district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors.
  • Mental Demands:
    Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
