Safety Inspector - Houston, Texas

Overview

Provide safety auditing and inspection services on S&B construction projects under the direction of the Field Safety Manager.

Education

High school education or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent, or one to three years of related experience and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications and Experience
  • On‑the‑job training as a learner or trainee under a qualified worker.
  • Medical credentials: PA, nurse, P‑EMT, E‑MT, or 1st Responder.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA record‑keeping regulations and industry safety best practices.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reports to Safety Supervisor or Field Safety Manager.
  • Assists in achieving Zero Accidents, prevents LTAs.
  • Reports to Health and Safety Coordinator and/or Safety Manager as required.
  • Must be EMT, or EMT‑P certified, or minimum 1st aid responder.
  • Keep all medical supplies updated, organized, and sanitary.
  • Conduct random drug screens as instructed.
  • Provides care for all injured employees.
  • Work with company doctor to coordinate proper care of injured employees.
  • Transport injured employees to and from doctor appointments as directed.
  • Stay with injured employees until medical care is complete, and retrieve all reports, releases, etc.
  • Maintain first aid log and documents as required.
  • Switch activities and be flexible with changes in other safety areas based on project needs.
  • Notify supervisor immediately of any breach of safety to personnel or equipment.
  • Know all safety‑related codes, e.g., disaster drill, emergency plan.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and avoid creating hazardous situations.
  • Wear proper protective clothing and equipment as required.
  • Punctual for scheduled work time; changes must be approved by supervisor.
  • Breach of any company policy may result in disciplinary action or termination.
Language Skills
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and employees.
  • Interpret safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speak effectively before clients or employees.
  • Understand English; other languages are a plus.
  • Present information effectively in one‑on‑one situations to fellow employees.
  • Apply commonsense to carry out detailed instructions in standardized situations.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.
Physical Demands
  • Stand and remain on one's feet in an upright position for sustained periods.
  • Walk and move around on various surfaces; may need to walk on wet, rocky, uneven, shifting, concrete, or mud surfaces.
  • Sit in a seated position when required.
  • Talk and exchange ideas verbally.
  • Occasionally carry or move an injured victim weighing up to 200 lbs for up to 50 feet.
  • Vision clarity at 20 feet or more.
  • Make visual comparisons and discriminations with slight differences.
  • Frequently sit with forward head and rounded back at a desk.
Work Environment

Work may occur indoors or outdoors, subject to environmental conditions such as adverse weather or plant setting exposure.

Set Hours
  • Typically 9–12 hours per day.
  • Lunch: 30 minutes.
  • Shift work: 4‑10s, 5‑10s, 6‑10s, 7‑10s, night and day.
