Role
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Field Services Supervisor or Manager, provide technical and mechanical services to external customers in settings such as workshops, compressor stations, process plants, etc.
- Aid in planning and execution of installation activities for Reciprocating Compression equipment.
- Assist in investigating and resolving customer reports of technical problems with equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance with site team leader guidance.
- Diagnose and correct engine problems with supervision.
- Repair and/or rebuild reciprocating engines and compressors per site team lead.
- Complete safety checks and report safety concerns.
- Monitor key operational variables and other process data, report to site team lead, and ensure units operate within design parameters.
- Attend on‑site operations meetings with client personnel to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Participate in construction activities to ensure process designs are used for operations and safety, identifying improvements based on field experience.
- Establish working relationships with key customer contacts including operators, engineering, and maintenance personnel to proactively manage long‑term and short‑term issues.
- Participate in safety and environmental reviews and serve as a key participant in process hazard reviews.
- Provide troubleshooting and problem‑solving assistance to customers in correcting or repairing equipment.
- Support turn‑around activities for customers, including identification, justification, procedure writing, reviews, and equipment inspection.
- Travel 200–300 days per year, anywhere from 2–14 weeks at a time.
- Work extended hours up to 10–14 hours per day, including weekends and holidays; typical work week can be 60–84 hours.
- Ascend/descend ladders, examine equipment in confined spaces, move boxes weighing 40–50 pounds, work in outdoor weather conditions, walk long distances, and share company vehicles with other employees at customer sites.
- 0–1 years of industry experience, experience with Reciprocating Compression equipment a plus.
- Familiarity with a variety of technical field concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Dependable, able to handle multiple activities successfully.
- Mature, able to follow direction, with well‑developed administrative and organizational skills.
- Result oriented with a sense of urgency.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and above‑average interpersonal skills.
- Associate’s degree with a technical concentration (bachelor’s degree preferred) or equivalent work experience.
- Formal training in a technical certificate program.
- Technical training in the oil and gas industry or associated industry.
- Basic product knowledge:
Cooper Bessemer, Ajax, Superior Engine, Superior Compressor, Gemini Compressor, Clark, Waukesha, Dresser, Caterpillar.
