Reporting to the Director of Research, Technology and Development,the Project Engineer will work across all disciplines and departmentsof the organization to support and implement process development and continual improvement projects that align with strategic business goals and objectives. The Project Engineer functions as a project manager, using six sigma principles methodology and LEAN tools to identify, lead and complete projects that: materially enhance customer satisfaction, employee fulfillment, turnaround time, defect reduction,process improvement, and effectiveness improvements as measured by Company Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
This position requires the ability to adapt, and tailor Lean Six Sigma tools to the uniqueregulatory, scientific, and quality requirements of a forensicoperation. The position is ideal for candidates who have Lean or Six Sigma experience, strong problem-solving skills, and who are eager toapply continuous improvement principles in a scientific,non-manufacturing environment.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Apply lean methodologies and process improvement techniques tofoster a culture of continuous improvement efforts across laboratory operations
- Collaborate with staff, both technical and non-technical, to understand forensic processes and ensure improvements maintain scientific integrity
- Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials and best practices
- Monitor the sustainability of implemented improvements bytracking performance indicators and engaging with teams toensure ongoing compliance
- Support change management efforts by assisting withcommunication plans, training sessions, and post-implementation reviews
- Applying Lean and/or Six Sigma tools to forensic workflows andmodify these tools when necessary to align with scientific,legal and quality standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The position requires bachelor’s degree in Business Administration ora related field. Direct relevant work experience in the performance of required duties or required certification may be considered in lieu ofthe degree.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification (preferably ASQ) is required.
- Minimum three years of direct work experience in process improvement is required.
- Must have hands‑on experience using Lean tools and six sigma methodologies
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Foundational understanding of process improvement principles,methodologies and tools
- Strong analytical, statistical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong knowledge of project management and proficiency in usingproject management software
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
- Comfortability with working with both technical and administrative staff
- Ability to learn and understand forensic laboratory workflows,terminology, and accreditation requirements. Knowledge in forensic science processes and procedures is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Microsoft Power BI experience is a plus
- Experienced in working with cross-organizational teams
