Senior Functional Safety Technical Lead

Houston, TX: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Senior Functional Safety Technical Lead, Autonomous Operations to support a confidential client in the energy and advanced automation sector. This role will provide technical leadership in Functional Safety with an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) focus, supporting autonomous and automated operations initiatives across North America and LATAM. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical depth, project execution excellence, and business development capability to drive both delivery and growth.

This is a full-time hybrid position based in Houston, TX.

• Lead Functional Safety initiatives within Autonomous Operations projects, with a focus on Operations & Maintenance (O&M) environments
• Support regional leadership in deploying Functional Safety strategy and vision across key markets
• Build and contribute to a Functional Safety Center of Excellence, promoting best practices and strengthening industry presence
• Manage and mentor a team of technical professionals to ensure high-quality project delivery and technical excellence
• Lead and execute complex digital and automation engagements, including requirements definition, solution development, implementation, change management, and value realization
• Oversee project teams consisting of full-time employees, contractors, and global resources to ensure successful execution
• Collaborate cross-functionally to develop integrated service offerings within digital and operational practices
• Navigate client decision-making processes, engage executive stakeholders, and support proposal and contract development
• Assist with sales pursuits, RFP responses, and client discovery engagements to frame and sell solutions
• Identify opportunities to enhance client performance and improve financial outcomes
• Drive continuous improvement and support digital enablement within the practice
• Travel approximately 35–50% to support client engagements across the Americas

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Electronics, or related field) from an accredited institution
• 10+ years of experience delivering projects involving Advanced Automation technologies and Functional Safety applications
• Strong experience developing and integrating multi-technology automation solutions
• Functional Safety certification (Exida CFSE, TÜV, or similar) preferred
• Demonstrated project management experience, particularly within operations and performance improvement environments
• Experience facilitating workshops, conducting client discovery sessions, and providing strategic advisory/consulting services
• Alarm Rationalization/Alarm Management experience highly preferred
• Proven ability to lead technical teams while maintaining hands-on project involvement (“Doer/Seller” mindset)
• Demonstrated success in business development and relationship-driven sales
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all organizational levels, including executives
• Innovative, adaptable, and decisive with the ability to evaluate and implement emerging technologies at scale

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working in an office or hybrid environment
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 35–50%
• Ability to attend client meetings, workshops, and site visits as required
