About the Role
An ROV Assistant Operator serves as an important team member of ROV teams and plays a supporting role in offshore ROV inspections and other robotic inspections. The primary objective of this position is to support day-to-day logistical, technical, and operational aspects of ROV operations to ensure the smooth running of Company and Client ROV projects in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations.
Responsibilities
- Working in accordance with corporate technical, quality, and HSE policies and strategies
- Develop and maintain high-quality working relationships within Proceanic and Client teams
- Support ROV Operations Coordinator, ROV Supervisors, and Operators with inspection-specific technical needs
- Assist in training and on-the-job development of junior team members as appropriate
In the Office:
- Support the ROV Operations Coordinator with maintenance, repair, tooling, and integration of mini-ROV systems
- Assist with and learn to produce detailed multimedia inspection reports in accordance with client and Company standards
- Assist with training and mentoring junior staff under supervision
- Provide engineering and technical input into ROV system modifications, tooling, and integration activities
- Assist with equipment preparation, mobilization, demobilization, and inventory tracking
In the Field:
- Support ROV teams performing inspections of offshore, maritime, and other subsea assets using ROV systems
- Provide professional input, as appropriate, to team members and client representatives based on inspection findings
- Perform underwater hull inspections using mini-ROV systems and associated tooling
- Perform tank, confined space, and internal structural inspections using mini-ROV systems
- Participate in risk management activities (risk assessments, JSA’s, toolbox talks, etc.)
- Perform physically demanding offshore tasks, including handling ROVs, tethers, tooling, and equipment cases; climbing ladders and stairs; and working in confined or elevated spaces
- Implement and comply with company safety procedures
- Follow company systems for quality, safety, environmental, and technical operations
- Extensive travel (up to 50% of the year), including offshore and remote locations, as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ROV Operations Coordinator or ROV Supervisors at client locations
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Marine, Ocean, or related engineering / technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
Required Skills
- Demonstrate willingness to support Supervisors and Client Representatives with project and inspection work
- Strong interest in technical development and career progression within offshore ROV operations
- Ability to interact professionally with diverse teams, clients, and cultures
- Developing written and verbal communication skills suitable for technical reporting and client interaction
- Ability to accept delegated duties and maintain accountability for assigned tasks
- Ability to work cooperatively with internal staff, contractors, and client personnel
- Strong computer skills, including inspection reporting and data management tools
- Flexible, adaptable, and responsive approach to work
- Ability to work under direct supervision and follow instructions from Supervisors and Operators
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Willingness to travel frequently, including to remote or challenging locations, sometimes at short notice

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards
- Willingness to learn new technical skills and take on varied operational responsibilities
- Comfortable working with limited supervision in field and offshore settings
- Flexible with work hours, travel, and changing project demands
- Physically capable of offshore work, including climbing ladders and stairs, working in hot environments, and handling equipment
- Willing and able to travel extensively, including offshore and remote locations
