Senior Engineering Project Manager - Transportation

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full-time opportunity for a Senior Engineering Transportation Project Manager for our Houston, TX office with experience managing transportation projects and will be a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. This role includes marketing, business development, client management, and project management for transportation agencies and clients in and around Houston, TX, with opportunities to work on transportation projects for other HZ offices.

Location: Houston West, TX

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Duties:

  • Conduct business development efforts for transportation and public works clients including TxDOT, HCTRA, and local public works departments.
  • Serve as Project Manager and oversee operations for transportation projects.
  • Develop, oversee, and monitor project activities including scope, budget, and schedule management.
  • Mentor and manage supporting staff for transportation projects.
  • Participate in engineering organizations (e.g., ACEC, ASCE, and AASHTO).
  • Support company-wide transportation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes Project Manager responsibilities for major projects ($2.0+ million annual billing).
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget.
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients.
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience.
  • Must be a Licensed Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas.
  • TxDOT Transportation Project Management experience.
  • Proficient in Open Roads and Project Wise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Strong civil engineering technical skills.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience in business development and proposal preparation.
  • Experience and relationships with TxDOT and other Houston region transit and transportation agencies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
