Aircraft Mechanic Trainee (DoD Skill Bridge)

DoD Skill Bridge Qualified Candidates Only
Standard Aero Houston is seeking a Skill Bridge Mechanic Trainee to learn and perform technical inspections and troubleshooting, with cross-training in Structures and Avionics. You will work with a team of specialized A&P Mechanics to maintain midsized corporate aircraft and perform operational checks.
What You'll Do- Follow all required standards in the performance of assigned work displaying appropriate competencies in accordance with FAA Regulations, OEM manuals, and related materials.
- Conduct necessary troubleshooting and/or repair.
- Disassembly and assembly of various aircraft components according to sequence utilizing aircraft tools and other equipment for repair and/or overhaul.
- Inspect aircraft parts to determine and/or perform NDT requirements.
- Utilize applicable database systems to retrieve information regarding parts inventory, manufacturing models, serial numbers, and/or other pertinent information to ensure proper documentation.
- Refer to technical publications, specification sheets and/or other regulatory requirements to ensure that all tasks are completed in proper sequence with required sign-off.
- Has served at least 180 days on active duty
- Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
- Will receive an honorable discharge
- Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
- Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
- Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in the DoD Skill Bridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
- Must meet all aforementioned eligibility requirements as outlined above
- Ability to attain FAA A&P license within 1 year of hire
- Computer literacy skills are required, as well as the ability to read, interpret and understand technical manuals, micrometers and other precision-measuring instruments
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to obtain a HAS Airport Badge
- Previous engine maintenance experience in the aerospace field on turbine engines;
Honeywell, Rolls Royce and/or Pratt & Whitney experience - Valid FAA A&P licenses
This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of Defense (DoD) Skill Bridge Program. The candidate(s) selected for this role will remain an employee of the DoD and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoD. The individual(s) selected will not receive compensation or benefits from Standard Aero and will not be an employee, agent, or contractor of Standard Aero.
