Forward-Deployed Manufacturing Engineer – Dallas/Houston | Remote | Full-time
Instrumental technology helps electronics brands reduce manufacturing waste by using AI from data on the factory floor to automate failure identification and resolution, improving yield, quality, and time to market.
Instrumental is seeking a versatile Forward-Deployed Engineer to join our Customer Experience team. This role blends hands-on electronics manufacturing experience with our AI technology to deliver rapid, impactful results for customers worldwide. You’ll deploy equipment on complex electronics manufacturing lines, train Instrumental algorithms, leverage our software to accelerate value, and build critical relationships with customers and their manufacturing partners. You’ll work with Instrumental’s fastest-growing customers and support core company missions.
This role suits someone passionate about improving electronics manufacturing and who enjoys frequent travel to factories in North America and around the world. The ideal candidate is multi-faceted, technically savvy, organized, and deeply customer-oriented.
What You’ll Be Doing- Own a Mission and Deliver on It. You’ll travel to customer factory sites, primarily in North America, with a company-critical mission. Missions may include setting up and integrating physical equipment and accelerating customer “time to value” by hand-tuning Instrumental algorithms and software. You’ll be the engineer on the ground who owns mission success, with support from our global team.
- Build Relationships with Customer and Factory Stakeholders. On site, you’ll understand and build rapport with stakeholders critical to Instrumental’s success to enable adoption. You’ll leverage these relationships to complete missions quickly and effectively and establish a strong technical and dependable reputation for yourself and Instrumental.
- Leverage Instrumental’s Software to Drive Value. You’ll become an expert in Instrumental’s software and technology, including non-customer-facing functionalities. This enables you to identify how to get the most performance from the system—such as making physical tweaks, adding training labels, or replicating customer tests—and apply your engineering understanding to deliver results.
- Experience getting things done in electronics factories. 3+ years of professional experience in electronics manufacturing performing engineering or operations work, on either the brand or EMS side. You understand factory environments, processes, and politics and can move things forward quickly.
- Love the factory floor more than an office. This role requires frequent travel to customer factory sites, primarily in North America. Travel can be up to 80% during peak periods and may include evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrated ability to complete your mission. You can share stories of mission ownership and delivery under challenging circumstances, applying diverse engineering and operations skills to critical company missions.
- Excellent written and spoken English + ideally Mandarin or Spanish. You will communicate with a variety of global stakeholders, representing Instrumental with important customers. We prioritize bilingual English/Mandarin or English/Spanish speakers.
You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match the job description.
Instrumental offers competitive, location-based compensation. The following is a representative annual base salary range: $134,500-$147,000.
Job leveling and salary opportunities are evaluated through our interview process—we review each applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Instrumental’s benefits include:
