We are actively staffing for a Sr Marine Structural Engineer for one of our major Oil & Gas / Energy Services clients located in their Houston office.
Location: Houston, TX (office-based with 9/80 work schedule))
Pay Rate: $67/hr-$87/hr
Job Summary
The Senior Marine Structural Engineer applies advanced marine engineering principles to deliver complex structural analyses and designs for marine and coastal facilities. This role operates with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision, demonstrating strong problem-solving capabilities within the marine structures discipline. The position requires experience working in multi-disciplinary, multi-project environments and includes responsibility for developing preliminary and detailed engineering drawings, as well as performing structural design for a wide range of marine facilities.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in the design of marine structures, including ports, terminals, wharves, piers, bulkheads, breakwaters, berthing and mooring systems, and foundations
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university;
Master’s degree preferred - Professional Engineer (PE) registration required
- Prior construction experience with a marine contractor is required
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing greenfield and/or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market sectors:
- Natural gas processing, including liquefaction and regasification
- Coal-, gas-, or biomass-to-chemicals facilities (e.g., methanol, ammonia)
- Petrochemical facilities (HDPE, LDPE, MEG, PET, PTA, PVC, and others)
- Carbon capture and sequestration
- Solar and/or combined-cycle power plants
- Hydrogen value chain, including reforming, liquefaction, transportation, and fueling stations
- Offshore and onshore pipelines
- Desalination, raw water, demineralized water, and wastewater treatment plants
- Familiarity with current process technologies and licensors associated with the above industries
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Proficiency in commercial structural analysis and design software such as STAAD Pro, SACS, FB-Pier, L-Pile, MathCAD, OPTIMOOR, or similar programs
- Strong analytical skills in advanced structural and geotechnical design of marine and offshore structures and foundations
- In-depth knowledge of wave and current loadings, as well as mooring and berthing systems
- Proficiency in structural calculations, steel connection design (bolted and welded), and reinforced concrete design
- Experience in the design of sheet pile and king pile bulkhead walls
- Familiarity with international codes and standards related to marine and coastal engineering
- Knowledge of structural dynamics and finite element analysis is a plus
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as required
Major Responsibilities
- Serve as the Responsible Engineer for the design of marine structures, including breasting dolphins, mooring dolphins, steel structures, walkways, and pipe rack frame structures
- Review and approve design changes arising from construction issues, including field change documentation
- Provide technical support during vendor drawing reviews, including rebar detailing, and coordinate closely with construction teams to ensure constructability
- Respond to technical inquiries from construction and participate in coordination meetings as needed
- Provide technical support for transportation and installation activities of modular dolphins, including load-out and load-in operations
- Review existing design documents (e.g., marine facility design criteria, mooring dolphin design calculations and drawings) and inspection reports related to pile damage
