Sr. Technical Safety Engineer

: FPSO Manager

The Senior Technical Safety Engineer is responsible for the identification, assessment and management of technical HSES risks, with an objective to prevent major accidents.

The role is expected to provide strategy and technical support during all phases of the project life cycle (Pre-FEED, FEED, EPCIC), on matters of technical safety and inherent safety design.

• Develop and assure the Process Safety Management strategy in line with ISO 17776 and company standards.
• Act as the project Technical Authority for Technical Safety Engineering.
• Lead and support process safety risk assessments as required by the project, including HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, MAHP, fire and explosion assessments, FiFi design, and emergency evacuation studies.
• Ensure risk study actions are tracked, mitigated, and closed, with risks integrated into design development.
• Define, review, and approve safety-in-design deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards (API, IEC, NFPA, ISO, etc.).
• Develop and maintain the Case for Safety, demonstrating effective management of Major Accident Hazards (MAH) and compliance with operator risk tolerability and ALARP requirements.
• Ensure inherently safer design principles and the risk reduction hierarchy are applied throughout all project phases.
• Interface with WHP and SURF delivery teams to ensure safe, operable facility design and safety-critical performance requirements.
• Provide technical safety input to tendering, contract management, and change processes (TQs, NCRs, VORs, document reviews, schedule, and cost impacts).
• Lead or oversee technical safety studies, MAH and barrier health audits, and assurance activities.
• Support PSSR, commissioning safety checks, and operational readiness, including handover of barrier performance standards to Operations.
• Lead or support process safety incident investigations and embed lessons learned.
• Provide process safety coaching and awareness to relevant disciplines as required.

• Science or Engineering degree, or equivalent relevant experience
• 10+ years of Oil and Gas experience, including 5+ years supporting offshore projects
• Proven expertise in technical safety, barrier management, and offshore safety-in-design, including FPSOs, topsides, and pipelines.

• Strong knowledge of HSES-Q management systems and relevant ISO standards.
• Expertise in process safety and risk methodologies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, Bowtie, SIS).
• Experience leading audits, incident investigations, and managing specialist safety consultants, translating study outcomes into design decisions.
• Sound understanding of human factors and safety-in-design principles.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, multicultural, and fast-paced project environments.
• Results-driven, with balanced focus on HSES, operational delivery, cost, and people.
