Project Engineer, Civil Engineering

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer will be involved in assisting senior design engineers with design, analysis, and production of complex interstate highway/roadway design projects.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the design and analysis of roadway and other civil engineering projects. Must be able to take the design from the initial concept to the final design.
• Responsible for performing civil engineering design calculations, developing reports, plans, specifications and cost estimates as well as preparing final bid packages.
• Lead and coordinate with other staff, subcontractors and clients to deliver roadway and highway design project activities.
• Coordinate and work with a team of project managers, design engineers, technicians, and support staff to complete a variety of projects.
• Attend design review meetings with staff and clients and take ownership of the projects from start to finish.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners including clients, sub consultants, and utility companies
• Experience preparing final design plans, specifications and construction cost estimates
• Good problem solving and technical writing skills
• Proficiency with Microstation and AutoCAD drafting and design
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

Work Environment:

• This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
• The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection, etc.

Education, certification and experience:

• Bachelor's degree of Science in Civil Engineering
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or licensed professional engineering in Texas (PE)
• At least 5 years minimum design experience
• Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design software (Micro Station/Openroads and AutoCAD/Civil 3D)
• Strong technical design background in highway design and transportation engineering with additional experience in site civil design a plus.
• Experience in TxDOT or similar roadway design projects including development of roadway design bid packages for construction

• The team member is occasionally required to move about the office to utilize office productivity machinery such as the printer, copier, scanner, computer, etc.
• The team member is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
• May require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
• The team member may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus when using graphic design software.
