What to Expect
Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Our Energy team is expanding solar production to deliver high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) cells at scale, powering homes, businesses, and the grid with clean, affordable energy. As a Polysilicon Engineer, you will play a critical role in optimizing and scaling polysilicon production processes—the foundational material for our next-generation solar cells. This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced, innovative environment where you will drive breakthroughs in material purity, yield, and cost reduction to enable Tesla's mission of sustainable energy for all.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Lead the development, optimization, and scaling of polysilicon production processes, including Siemens reactor operations, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and purification techniques.
- Design and execute experiments to improve polysilicon quality, reduce impurities, and enhance energy efficiency in production.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (materials science, cell engineering, manufacturing) to integrate high‑purity polysilicon into solar wafer and cell fabrication.
- Analyze process data to identify bottlenecks, implement continuous improvements, and achieve aggressive yield and cost targets.
- Troubleshoot production issues in real‑time, ensuring safety, reliability, and high‑throughput operations.
- Develop and validate new technologies for polysilicon recycling, waste reduction, and sustainable manufacturing.
- Contribute to equipment design, automation, and pilot‑to‑production transitions in Tesla's solar facilities.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in polysilicon production, semiconductor materials, or solar PV manufacturing (experience with Siemens process or hyperpur silicon highly desired).
- Strong knowledge of chemical vapor deposition (CVD), thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials characterization techniques.
- Proven track record of process optimization, yield improvement, and scaling production in high‑volume environments.
- Hands‑on experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, JMP, MATLAB) and statistical process control.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, mission‑driven team with a bias for action and first‑principle thinking.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and a passion for sustainable energy innovation.
