We are actively staffing a Sr Electrical Engineer for one of our major Oil & Gas / Energy clients located in Houston, TX.

Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Plant

Pay Rate: $70/hr-$87/hr

Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Plant will support the planning, design, and execution of large-scale power generation facilities serving multiple industrial tenants, including AI data centers and gigafactories. During early project phases, this role contributes to master planning and engineering studies. As projects advance, the engineer will lead or perform detailed electrical design activities for power generation or tenant facilities, including equipment design, specification, and material requisition.

This position serves as a primary point of contact for clients on electrical engineering matters, coordinating electrical design activities across disciplines and resolving complex technical challenges to meet project-specific requirements.

This role is designated as part-time telework in accordance with the company’s global telework policy and requires a minimum of three days per week of in-person attendance at the assigned office or project site. Weekly in-office schedules will be determined in collaboration with the supervisor and project or functional leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute independent electrical engineering work requiring sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for medium-sized projects supporting a global business unit
  • Lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical systems and components related to the generation, transmission, distribution, manipulation, and storage of electrical power
  • Apply Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, guidelines, and company standard application programs to all electrical design activities
  • Develop conceptual and detailed electrical designs for projects with specialized or complex requirements
  • Prepare or oversee discipline-specific estimates and work plans aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget, and support execution and performance reporting
  • Support project estimating, staffing plans, and scheduling efforts
  • Communicate complex technical issues clearly and recommend effective solutions to project leadership and upper management
  • Interpret and apply new or specialized regulations, codes, standards, performance criteria, and industry best practices
  • Coordinate with client representatives to obtain approval of electrical engineering deliverables, as directed
  • Mentor electrical engineering staff through on-the-job training and technical guidance
  • Contribute to and participate in technical training and professional development programs
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or international equivalent) with 10–13 years of relevant experience
  • OR
  • 14–17 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in lieu of a degree
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong knowledge and application of NEC
    , ANSI
    , and IEEE codes and standards
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience serving as the electrical responsible engineer for medium to large material requisitions, including transformers, switch gear, substations, UPS systems, and bulk materials
  • In-depth knowledge of:
  • Medium-voltage systems (34.5 kV / 13.8 kV)
  • Low-voltage systems (480 V and 208/120 V)
  • Switchgear, MCCs, switchboards, distribution boards, and lighting panel design
  • Experience with power system studies, one-line diagrams, schematics, and connection diagrams
  • Knowledge of electrical raceway design and layout, including lighting, communications, grounding systems, grounding calculations, and lightning protection systems
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Electrical Engineering (Power discipline)
  • Prior experience as a Senior Electrical Engineer on medium-to-large industrial projects; data centers or power generation facilities preferred
  • Experience coordinating engineering design across multiple EPC offices and interfacing with client engineering teams (experience with India-based engineering centers preferred)
